The Lions of Teranga, buoyed by their strong performances in recent years, are determined to enhance their presence in both African and Senegalese football. As Senegal prepares for their World Cup match against France on Tuesday, June 16, forward Krepin Diatta has shared insights on the challenges that lie ahead.

Diatta acknowledges the formidable reputation of the French team, one of the tournament favorites, having reached the finals in the last two editions. Despite the daunting task, he is optimistic that Senegal possesses the capability to further their ascent on the international stage. “We know that France is a very strong team. They have been finalists in the last two World Cups, so we are aware that it will be a difficult match,” he stated. “But for our part, we are in the process of writing the finest chapters in the history of Senegalese football.”

The winger also emphasized the significance of experience within the squad. He noted the value of having former internationals who witnessed the dramatic 2002 encounter between Senegal and France. This experience, he believes, is crucial for the current generation, which aspires to make a lasting impact. “It’s always important to have veterans in the squad. They lived through the 2002 epic and their advice is invaluable to us. They play an important role and we’re here to listen to them,” Diatta remarked.
