Benni McCarthy has expressed confidence in South Africa’s ability to perform well against Czechia and South Korea in their upcoming World Cup Group A matches. The Bafana Bafana will face Czechia tomorrow evening at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, following a 2-0 defeat to host Mexico in the tournament’s opening match last week.
McCarthy, South Africa’s all-time leading scorer with 29 goals and currently the coach of the Kenyan national team, emphasized the team’s physical capability to compete on the World Cup stage. He highlighted the importance of matching the physicality of European and South American teams.
“Physically, we have presence. Every single defender in that team is a good unit,” McCarthy stated on SportyTV, as reported by Pulse Sports Kenya. He particularly noted defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, saying, “I think Mbokazi is probably the only defender that’s a decent size, but he’s got the heart of a lion.”
