Anders Dreyer and Marcus Ingvartsen each scored a goal and provided an assist as San Diego FC secured a 2-0 victory against St. Louis City SC on Sunday.
Dreyer opened the scoring in the third minute with help from fellow Dane Ingvartsen. Ingvartsen later scored in the 54th minute after Dreyer set him up, marking his second goal in consecutive games.
San Diego goalkeeper Duran Ferree made three saves, while St. Louis’ Roman Burki, a former All-Star and 2023 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, recorded four saves during an active game against a strong San Diego offense.
Dreyer is impressively contributing with a goal and four assists in four matches this season. Last year, he was the runner-up for the league MVP award, scoring 19 goals and providing 18 assists in his MLS debut.
He started the season by assisting twice in a 5-0 win against Montreal. In the second game, he quickly scored to begin his 2026 league tally.
With an assist from Onni Valakari, who dribbled forward, Ingvartsen played the ball to Dreyer. Dreyer then set himself up and finished with a left-footed shot into the opposite corner.
This goal placed Dreyer among the fastest players in MLS history to reach 20 career goals and assists, trailing only Lionel Messi.
He almost scored again four minutes later but missed the target with a right-footed attempt.
Burki denied a header from Valakari in the 10th minute and stopped Ingvartsen just two minutes later.
St. Louis had a chance to equalize in the 23rd minute when Chris Durkin found Miguel Perez in the box, who set up Simon Becher, but Becher could not convert.
Perez started in place of Marcel Hartel, who scored last week but missed this game due to the birth of his second child.
Both teams had chances early in the second half until Ingvartsen increased San Diego’s lead in the 54th minute.
Dreyer had a brilliant play to fake a shot, then assisted Ingvartsen for the finish.
Burki continued to prevent further scoring for San Diego, making a well-timed challenge against Anahl Pellegrino in the 68th minute and executing a kick save in the 74th minute.
St. Louis nearly scored in the 83rd minute when Cedric Teuchert penetrated the box and got a shot past Ferree, but Kieran Sargent cleared the effort off the line.
San Diego is now 3-0 this season, achieving two clean sheets at home and outscoring their opponents Pumas, CF Montreal, and St. Louis by a total of 11-1.
