Igor Tudor is struggling to get the best from Tottenham players recently
Tottenham finds itself in an unexpected situation. Just nine months ago, the team celebrated its Europa League win against Manchester United, ending a long wait for a major trophy. This success was anticipated to mark a new chapter for the club, but instead, they are facing a decline.
The team is now in danger of relegation from the Premier League this season. At the start, Thomas Frank had promised to build on the Europa League victory, but his performance over seven months did not reflect that. This led to his departure midway through the season.
Igor Tudor, who took over temporarily, has also struggled. He became the first Spurs manager to lose his first four matches. It seems he might soon be replaced if results do not improve.
Tottenham’s performance in the Premier League has been lacking
Tottenham’s weaknesses are becoming clear, with the team stuck in the lower half of the Premier League, just above the relegation zone. There are concerns that Tudor might be on his way out if the team’s form does not change soon. Reports suggest that players have lost confidence in him following a heavy loss to Atletico Madrid.
Fred Caldeira has pointed out that Spurs are currently the weakest of the so-called ‘big-six’ teams, given their poor showings in domestic competitions. He remarked on TNT Sports Brazil (via Sport Witness),
“Since I arrived in England – it will be ten years in September – I have never seen a Big Six team like this. This version of Tottenham is the worst Big Six team I have seen. I know Manchester United have had very bad moments as well, but this is a wandering soul. Tottenham are a living dead team.”
Caldeira continued,
“It’s difficult to find someone playing worse than Tottenham. In the Premier League, nobody. At this moment even Wolverhampton play better than Tottenham. It’s very serious what is happening. I can’t believe I’m saying this about the club with the ninth biggest revenue in the world, with a chance of relegation.”
Caldeira believes Spurs are not performing well enough to compete at the higher end of the table. He criticized their style of play, stating that even Wolverhampton shows better form. The prospect of relegation for a club of Spurs’ stature, ranked ninth in revenue, is hard to accept.
If Tottenham were to drop to the second division, it would surprise many in the football community. Such a situation would significantly tarnish their image as a ‘big club.’ The players now need to step up and find a way to return to winning before it’s too late.
