Kai Havertz scored in stoppage time against Chelsea, leading Arsenal to a 1-0 victory on Tuesday and a 4-2 aggregate win to reach the English League Cup final at Wembley.
The German forward, who moved to Arsenal after three seasons with Chelsea, entered the game in the 69th minute. He made a significant impact late by receiving a counter-attack pass from Declan Rice, rounding goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, and finishing with nearly the final kick of the match.
Arsenal, who won the first leg 3-2 at Stamford Bridge, maintained control for much of the game but struggled to create clear chances against a tough Chelsea defense.
This victory keeps Arsenal’s hopes alive for their first League Cup title since 1993. The team has finished as runners-up six times, with the latest being in 2018.
Arsenal is having a strong season, sitting six points clear at the top of the Premier League, advancing to the fourth round of the FA Cup, and finishing first in their Champions League group.
Midfielder Declan Rice commented on their pursuit of trophies: “In the last three or four years, we’ve been competing at the top of the Premier League and got close, but haven’t quite made it. This season, we have that extra desire to go further in every competition. It’s incredible to be in a cup final with this club,” he said.
Arsenal will meet either Manchester City or Newcastle United in the final on March 22. City currently leads their semi-final with a 2-0 advantage.
