• Abdel Abqar received a red card in the 55th minute for an inappropriate action against Alexander Sorloth.

  • The referee confirmed the action with VAR and issued a straight red card.

  • Nahuel Molina scored early, leading Atletico Madrid to a 1-0 victory over Getafe.

During a La Liga 2025-26 match at Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday, Getafe defender Abdel Abqar was sent off for pinching Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sorloth’s genitals.

The incident took place in the 55th minute, where Abqar appeared to touch Sorloth inappropriately off the ball. Sorloth reacted by grabbing Abqar’s arm and throwing him to the ground.

Referee Miguel Ortiz reviewed the situation using VAR, which was displayed on the stadium’s screens. He determined that Abqar’s action was intentional and issued a red card. Sorloth received a yellow card for his reaction.

In his match report, Ortiz stated that Abqar was sent off for “pinching the genital area of an adversary.” The ejection left Getafe at a disadvantage as they tried to come back from the early goal by Nahuel Molina, which turned out to be decisive.

Abqar Denies Intent

After the match, Abqar claimed his action was accidental.

“I did not intend to touch the player there,” he said to Movistar. “This happens in every game; we clash and touch, but I never aimed for that area.”

He added, “I’m not sure what the referee saw, but I assure you it wasn’t my intention.”

However, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Juan Musso disagreed, stating, “These are incidents from the past. The referee made the right decision. In today’s game, there’s no room for this behavior.”
