Bayer Leverkusen will meet Bayern Munich or Arsenal in the round of 16 after finishing their play-off second leg against Olympiacos with a 0-0 draw.
Leverkusen entered this match with a two-goal advantage from their first leg win in Greece. They had several chances to increase their aggregate score but could not capitalize.
After scoring two goals in the first leg, Patrik Schick had two excellent opportunities early in the match. He first headed wide from a cross by Alejandro Grimaldo and then misconnected on a lob over goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.
Jonas Hofmann’s effort in the fourth minute was the only shot on target from either team in the first half, while Olympiacos nearly scored at the other end.
Five minutes into the second half, Gelson Martins forced Janis Blaswich into a big save, but Martins’ risky cross just missed Chiquinho in the box.
Leverkusen quickly regained control and almost sealed the match just after the hour mark when Grimaldo’s powerful shot hit the crossbar.
The home side nearly found the back of the net in stoppage time. After a clever setup from Aleix Garcia, Schick lifted the ball over Tzolakis but missed the target.
