This season’s goalkeeper injury situation has reached extreme levels, making it a serious concern for the club.

First-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is recovering from a calf muscle injury, but he is not expected to return for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Atalanta.

Backup goalkeeper Jonas Urbig suffered a concussion just before the end of the first leg in Italy, and it’s uncertain if he will be ready for the next match.

During the recent 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen, third-string goalie Sven Ulreich made his first competitive appearance in a while but aggravated the situation by tearing a muscle in his right adductor, as confirmed by the club.

Although Ulreich completed the game, he will not be available for upcoming matches.

The usual number one goalkeeper for Bayern’s reserves, Leon Klanac, is also out injured, bringing the total number of injured goalkeepers to four.

Lucky Number Five? Who Is Leonard Prescott?

The next option is 16-year-old Leonard Prescott, born in New York, who plays for the under-17 Germany national team.

If he plays in a senior competitive match for Bayern, he would be the youngest keeper ever to do so, surpassing the current record holder Sven Scheuer, who debuted at 18 years and 237 days during a European Cup match against Rangers in 1989.
