BBC Sport journalist Adam Pope has reported that Leeds United plans to allocate most of their transfer budget to two crucial positions: a top goalkeeper and a striker. Despite the club’s recent signings, including Lucas Perri, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Lukas Nmecha, manager Daniel Farke aims to bolster the midfield.

Pope stated, “A top-class goalkeeper and a striker are where I would expect to see the bulk of a transfer kitty spent.” This indicates a clear strategy to strengthen the team’s core as they aim to remain in the Premier League.

Reviewing Farke’s current squad, the reasoning behind this spending becomes clear. Relying on 28-year-old Lucas Perri has resulted in inconsistent performances this season. Initially, he showed promise, but now he is conceding nearly two goals per game after 16 matches.

It appears that adapting to English football has been challenging for him. Additionally, ongoing speculation about Illan Meslier’s future means Farke lacks a strong presence in goal. Therefore, Pope’s suggestion for a new “top-class” goalkeeper makes sense.
