Ben Foster shared his thoughts on Kobbie Mainoo after the midfielder’s performance in Manchester United’s draw with Tottenham on Saturday.

Mainoo played the full match and assisted Bryan Mbeumo for the opening goal. The 20-year-old has shown notable improvement since Michael Carrick became the interim head coach.

Under Carrick, Mainoo has started all four league matches, benefiting from consistent playing time.

Mainoo has recorded two assists in four games since Carrick took over and looked at ease again this past weekend.

The midfielder has shown steady improvement, contributing a composed presence during the win over Spurs.

Following United’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham, Ben Foster discussed Mainoo’s performance on his Fozcast podcast, expressing his pleasure at seeing him excel.

“Brilliant, mate [Mainoo’s performance],” he said. “What a player. Honestly.”

Foster also referenced Mainoo’s potential role for England in Euro 2024, especially acknowledging his impact in the final against Germany, offering further praise for the young talent.

Ben Foster questions Kobbie Mainoo’s absence under former Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim

Foster expressed his confusion over Mainoo’s limited playing time under Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed in July.

The former United goalkeeper suggested there may have been a fallout between the two that led to Mainoo’s exclusion.

“There’s something going on there,” Foster noted on his podcast.

“There’s got to have been a massive fallout because you can’t watch that player on Saturday and not include him in the team. You can tell he’s a player.”

Mainoo did not start any Premier League matches under Amorim but has returned to the starting lineup for all four league games since Carrick took charge.
