This summer, Manchester United‘s main objective is to retain captain Bruno Fernandes. He has been crucial for the team, contributing 20 goals this season and is a strong candidate for the Premier League Player of the Season.

Clubs from the Saudi Pro League have expressed interest in signing Fernandes, but with Manchester United performing well under Michael Carrick, there is hope that he will remain at Old Trafford.

According to a report from The Mirror, Manchester United plans to offer Fernandes a new contract worth 400,000 pounds per week to encourage him to stay.

Fernandes is currently the team’s second-highest paid player, earning 300,000 pounds per week, which totals 15 million pounds annually. The new deal would make him the highest-paid player at 20 million pounds per season, surpassing Casemiro, who currently earns about 18 million pounds a year but may leave this summer.

The report states that Fernandes is not primarily motivated by salary. While financial gain is appealing, his main focus is on sporting success, particularly securing a place in the Champions League.

This puts his future in a precarious position. If Fernandes prioritizes the Champions League over financial incentives, Manchester United should be more concerned about losing him to a European rival rather than to the Saudi Pro League.
