Thrilling Win for Calicut FC
Thiruvananthapuram: A surprising defeat for Konnens FC in the Amul-organized Sports.com Super League in Kerala. In the second match of the tenth round held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, table-toppers Calicut FC beat Konnens 2-1. Both goals for Calicut came during injury time. Paulo Victor scored for Konnens, while Rinkan and Ajzal were on target for Calicut. Konnens, with 12 points from 10 matches, now faces a tough road ahead for semi-final qualification. They can only advance if Malappuram FC loses to Force Kochi in the upcoming match. Today’s result secured a semi-final spot for Kannur Warriors.
In the sixth minute, Muhammad Asher’s left-wing shot failed to threaten Calicut’s goal. Konnens scored in the 16th minute when Paulo Victor jumped onto a cross from Badish and finished accurately (1-0).
In the 24th minute, Bruno Kunj’s close-range shot was saved by Konnens keeper Satyajitha. Injured captain Ajay Alex left the field, replaced by Shahabaz Ahmed. Shortly after, Rinann Rocha from Konnens and Asif from Calicut both received yellow cards. Satyajitha’s stunning saves in the first half kept Konnens in the lead.
At the start of the second half, top scorer Muhammad Ajzal was brought in as a substitute for Calicut. Their persistent attacks finally paid off during injury time. Rinkan equalized for Calicut from a penalty, and shortly after, Ajzal scored from a free kick to secure a memorable win for Calicut FC. In the previous match, Calicut had beaten Konnens by one goal.
On Thursday (December 4), the final league match will see Malappuram FC facing Force Kochi FC at Mannjeri Payyanad Stadium at 7:30 PM.
