Tottenham Hotspur need a new centre back.

Tottenham Hotspur fans have wanted a new centre back for some time. The club has been linked with top names in European football over the last few transfer windows, but no deals have happened.

As the next summer transfer window approaches, there is a chance that both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven could leave. This would mean Spurs need a significant defensive overhaul, requiring not just a solid defender but also a strong leader. Because of this, Tottenham is interested in bringing Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer next summer.

Rudiger left England in 2022, moving from Chelsea to Madrid. He has continued to prove himself as a top defender at Santiago Bernabeu. However, recent speculation has increased regarding his future as he nears the end of his contract.

Arsenal interested in signing Rudiger

New reports from Football Insider suggest that Tottenham’s rivals, Arsenal, might have an advantage in signing Rudiger. The Gunners are reportedly keen on strengthening their defense next summer.

The report mentions Arsenal as favorites among bookmakers to land Rudiger if he decides to leave Madrid. Mikel Arteta is interested in enhancing his defensive lineup.

Fabrizio Romano noted that Arsenal signed Piero Hincapie ahead of Tottenham last summer and are looking to make him their first signing this window with a deal around €52 million for the Emirates Stadium.

Key Considerations for Tottenham

Tottenham must compete with Arsenal for Rudiger and avoid waiting too long, giving Arsenal a chance to outbid them for another important signing.

Currently, Tottenham’s main focus is staying in the Premier League. Even if they avoid relegation, the lack of European football could be a significant hurdle when competing with a club like Arsenal.
