According to OptaAce, Alcaraz is the third player in the Open Era to start a season with 15 consecutive wins before turning 23.
Sinner is one of these players, beginning his 2024 season with wins at both the Australian Open and the Rotterdam tournament, before losing to Alcaraz in the semi-finals at Indian Wells.
Stefan Edberg achieved this milestone in 1987, winning titles at the Australian Open and Memphis before losing to Boris Becker in the Indian Wells final.
If Alcaraz defeats Cameron Norrie later this week, he will equal the best season starts of Sinner and Roger Federer.
He has already surpassed Stan Wawrinka’s record of 13 straight wins from the start of the 2014 ATP season.
Carlos Alcaraz should not underestimate Cameron Norrie
Despite being 28 places apart in the ATP rankings, Norrie has won three of the last five matches against Alcaraz.
The latest victory was at the 2025 Paris Masters, where he won in three sets.
Norrie reflected, “This win is so big for me. I lost in the first round of the qualifiers here last year. Coming back from my injury, I’ve been trying to enjoy my tennis in the second half of the year, and I was happy to do that.”
“To get the biggest win of my career, my first win over a world number one, and the most confident player in the world right now, I am satisfied with how I managed it.”
Norrie shared, “I went for a walk this morning with my coach, discussing how to serve for the match and what I needed to remind myself.” He had previously beaten Sebastian Baez in straight sets in the first round.
“I felt very tense serving for the match against Baez. I told myself I deserved to be here, and I wanted to be here, which helped me feel more relaxed.”
“It was a nice walk, a crucial walk.”
