According to a report from Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Celtic is considering a loan move for Junior Adamu before the Monday deadline. They are not alone, as there is competition for the SC Freiburg player.

The 24-year-old Austria international developed his skills at GSV Wacker and Grazer AK before moving to Red Bull Salzburg. After a short time with the reserves, he was sent to FC Liefering in the second division for more playing time.

Success in Austria, Challenges in Germany

Adamu showcased his talent at Salzburg and was loaned to St. Gallen in Switzerland, where he scored 8 goals during his stay. This performance earned him a spot in the first team at Salzburg for the 2021-22 season.

Freiburg signed him for €6 million in the summer of 2023, but his performance has waned, with only 7 goals in 67 appearances across all competitions [stats via Transfermarket]. This season, he has scored just two goals while playing as a ‘number 9’, falling behind Igor Matanović and Lucas Höler in the team’s lineup at Europa-Park Stadion.
