According to a report from CeltsAreHere, Celtic is considering a move for Ali Avila after extensive scouting in recent months. The player, currently with Querétaro, will be a free agent unless he signs a new contract before June, which makes him an appealing target for the Hoops.

Avila, a 22-year-old Mexico U23 international, started his career at Monterrey. He had a loan spell at Raya2 in Mexico’s second division before joining UNAM to gain more first-team experience. Last summer, Querétaro loaned him and later secured his services in January for about €1.72 million.

Why This Move Makes Sense for Celtic

The forward has had a strong season, netting 6 goals in 10 appearances for the White Roosters in Liga MX Apertura. Celtic’s scout Mark Cooper is closely monitoring him, but they may face competition from clubs like Standard Liege and Dynamo Kyiv.

Celtic could acquire Avila on a Bosman deal or negotiate a small fee with Querétaro. However, if the player wants to extend his contract with Querétaro, it could complicate any immediate transfer. Celtic’s management has several important decisions ahead, including finding a replacement for Martin O’Neill and considering whether to make the loans of Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu permanent for stability next season.
