• Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is out of the UEFA Champions League match against Atalanta.

  • Neuer has a calf muscle tear, similar to an earlier injury that sidelined him for three matches.

  • Jonas Urbig is set to start in his place for Bayern.

Manuel Neuer will miss Tuesday’s Champions League game due to a new injury. Bayern Munich confirmed on Saturday that he has a minor calf muscle tear sustained in their recent 4-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

This marks the second calf muscle tear for Neuer in less than two months; he previously suffered the same injury during a 3-0 win against Werder Bremen last month, which kept him out for three weeks until his return last Friday.

As Neuer approaches his 40th birthday later this month, his contract with Bayern is set to expire at the end of the season. The club is reportedly considering a one-year extension for him.

Jonas Urbig will take over as the goalkeeper during Neuer’s absence.
