Chelsea made several notable signings in the summer 2025 transfer window, but the standout attacking player so far is center forward Joao Pedro. While he may not be the prolific scorer fans hoped for, his exceptional hold-up play is crucial for the team.

However, Chelsea could better utilize Pedro’s skill in keeping possession, drawing out defenders, and making runs into space.

Players who can disrupt defenses and involve teammates are vital for successful attacks. Teams like Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and PSG recognize the importance of these players in top competitions like the Champions League.

What Pedro lacks is another striker or a left winger who can finish the chances he creates. He’s impressive with his ability to draw 1.5 fouls per game and contributes with four assists.

Despite not being a top scorer, his 11 goals lead a Chelsea team that struggles with scoring from other players, particularly Cole Palmer, who hasn’t lived up to expectations.

Chelsea attempted to find those supporting players for Pedro this summer, but Liam Delap, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Alejandro Garnacho have not performed well. Garnacho seems out of place at Chelsea, Delap has been one of the least effective strikers in the Premier League this season, and Gittens appears too inexperienced for this level.

Still, Pedro is a player worth nurturing. His ability to hold the ball and create opportunities is impressive, but he needs a more reliable partner up front to convert the chances he generates.
