Philip Zinckernagel scored just 15 seconds into the game, helping the Chicago Fire secure a 1-0 victory against Nashville SC on Saturday night. The Fire’s defense held strong for the rest of the match, marking their second consecutive win.
Chicago improved to 3-2-1 with 10 points, while Nashville fell to 4-1-1, maintaining 13 points. Chicago’s goalkeeper Chris Brady achieved a clean sheet, showcasing the team’s defensive growth compared to last season, when they allowed 60 goals.
The Fire took the lead early after a mistake from Nashville. Jonathan Bamba capitalized on the turnover, setting up Zinckernagel for a simple goal. Brady was crucial in the final minutes, making two key saves, including one from Jeissen Palacios’ header just before the final whistle.
Despite Nashville’s strong push during eight minutes of stoppage time, they couldn’t find the equalizer and suffered their first loss in 10 matches.
Nashville had more ball possession, at 58.3%, compared to Chicago’s 41.7%. However, they struggled to convert that advantage into scoring opportunities. Chicago managed effective counter-attacks after Zinckernagel’s goal, maintaining strong defensive play throughout the match.
The Fire recorded 16 clearances to support Brady, successfully limiting the effectiveness of Nashville’s key players, including Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar, who each had just one shot on target. Bamba contributed significantly, with three shots alongside his assist, while Zinckernagel took four shots, two of which were on target.
