On Valentine’s Day, Chivas Guadalajara faced Club América in a Liga MX match that lacked any romantic sentiment. When the final whistle blew, it was Chivas supporters celebrating at Estadio Akron. Meanwhile, Liga Argentina and Liga BetPlay Dimayor continued their early-season games, as the CONCACAF Champions Cup and Copa Libertadores approach a busy midweek. With MLS and other leagues about to start, here are the latest updates from North and South American football.

Chivas Remain Undefeated with Clásico Nacional Victory Against América

Chivas Guadalajara continues to dominate in Liga MX, and their biggest test came at home against a struggling Club América. A first-half goal from Hormiga González secured a 1–0 win. The young forward is making a strong case for selection to El Tri ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Chivas could have won by a larger margin, taking 16 shots and keeping Aguilas goalkeeper Ángel Malagón busy. América’s revamped attack struggled again, finishing without a goal and managing only eight shots. New Brazilian signings Raphael Veiga and Lima came on during the second half, while Víctor Dávila, Raúl Zúñiga, and Henry Martín rotated in attacking roles. At 33, Martín has not scored since May. In contrast, González has netted five goals this season, helping Chivas maintain a perfect record of 6-0-0.
