Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time, helping the New York Red Bulls earn a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC on Saturday. The game had five minutes of stoppage time initially but was prolonged, allowing New York (2-1-1, 7 points) to equalize.

After a corner kick, Tanner Rosborough had a shot blocked, but the Red Bulls maintained possession. Choupo-Moting then took control, turned in the box, and fired a right-footed shot into the upper right corner past Toronto goalkeeper Luka Gavran.

This crucial goal gave Red Bulls coach Michael Bradley a point in his return to Toronto, where he previously played for nearly ten years, scoring 16 goals in 258 games and leading the team to victory in the 2017 MLS Cup.

New York dominated possession with 63.3 percent and took 18 shots, avoiding being shut out for a second week after previous wins over Orlando City and New England.

Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made five saves, including one against Daniel Salloi just before New York’s equalizer. Gavran also had a busy day, stopping six shots before conceding to Choupo-Moting.

Toronto (1-2-1, 4 points) almost secured a win over the Red Bulls, holding a 1-0 lead when Salloi scored in the 43rd minute.

This was Salloi’s second consecutive week of scoring. The play began with Gavran throwing the ball to Djordje Mihailovic, who advanced down the right side and found Salloi, who finished with a soft shot past Horvath.

Toronto also introduced Josh Sargent, who signed a five-year contract on February 27. Sargent made his debut in the 70th minute and was denied by Horvath in the 86th.
