The Cristian Romero suspension will result in Tottenham’s captain missing four upcoming matches after his red card against Manchester United and his comments regarding the team’s squad problems.

Following the Argentine’s social media post, the situation was addressed internally, and Spurs manager Thomas Frank remained supportive of the defender.

Romero, who was expected to anchor the defense, had to exit the game early after a strong tackle on Casemiro resulted in a red card for dangerous play in the 29th minute.

Typically, a red card like this brings a three-match ban, but since Romero has already been sent off this season, his suspension means Tottenham Hotspur will be without their captain for four crucial games.

This season, Romero has received two red cards in the Premier League. The first occurred in December during a 2–1 defeat to Liverpool, where he got two yellow cards.

As a result of receiving two red cards this season, Romero will miss Tottenham’s next four domestic matches, starting with the home game against Newcastle United.

The former Juventus, Genoa, and Atalanta defender will also miss significant fixtures, including the North London derby against Arsenal, a home match against Crystal Palace, and an away game against Liverpool.

Romero will not return to domestic play until March when Tottenham faces Nottingham Forest, but he is eligible to play in the Champions League Round of 16 against either Juventus, Galatasaray, Atletico Madrid, or Club Brugge.

This latest red card marks Romero’s sixth since joining Spurs, with four of those occurring in the Premier League. This ties him for the club record for the most red cards in league history.
