Cristiano Ronaldo has purchased a 25% share in the Spanish second-division club UD Almeria, as confirmed on Thursday by Brunswick Group, the consulting firm for the player. The investment was made via his CR7 Sports Investments company, and financial details were not shared.

“It has been a long-time ambition of mine to contribute to football, beyond the pitch,” Ronaldo said. “UD Almeria is a Spanish club with strong foundations and clear potential for growth.”

In a 2023 interview, he mentioned his plans to buy a football club. “I don’t rule out becoming a club owner,” he stated. “It’s something I thought about a few years back. I probably would like to own a club.”

Saudi-Owned Almeria Welcomes Ronaldo

UD Almeria has been owned by Saudi Arabia for more than six years. Mohamed Al-Khereiji took over the club in 2025, becoming the new owner and president.

Ronaldo, who turned 41 in February, joined Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr in late 2022.

“We are very pleased that Cristiano has chosen our club to invest in,” Mohamed Al-Khereiji said. “He understands the Spanish leagues well and recognizes the potential of what we are building here with the team and the academy.”

Almeria last played in La Liga in the 2023-24 season and is currently striving for promotion, sitting third in Spain’s Segunda Division with 48 points from 27 games, just two points behind leaders Racing Santander.
