Crystal Palace is now actively pursuing Derby County striker Patrick Agyemang, according to Football Insider’s transfer expert Pete O’Rourke on the Transfer Insider podcast. Leeds United had shown interest in the 25-year-old American forward for a while, but Palace’s entry into the chase adds competition for Leeds in acquiring one of the standout players in the Championship this season.

Crystal Palace Join Leeds United in Race to Sign Patrick Agyemang From Derby County

O’Rourke mentioned that Derby acquired Agyemang from Charlotte FC in the summer of 2025 for around £7 million, and his value has likely increased since then. During the 2025/26 Championship season, he has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in about 2,100 minutes of play, making him one of the busiest strikers in the league. O’Rourke highlighted that Agyemang is sharing the top-scorer position with Carlton Morris, and together, they have kept Derby in playoff contention.

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, Agyemang joined Derby after playing a key role in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he helped the United States Men’s National Team reach the final. He can play both as a forward and on the flanks. O’Rourke pointed out that if Agyemang performs well for the U.S. at the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the U.S., it could attract more clubs to him. Transfermarkt currently values him at €7 million, but this amount is likely low given his recent performance.

Palace is looking to enhance their attacking options. Jean-Philippe Mateta almost left for AC Milan in January but failed a medical and is expected to leave this summer. Eddie Nketiah’s situation is also uncertain. Despite signing Jorgen Strand Larsen, Palace needs more options upfront, and Agyemang fits their needs as a versatile and athletic striker.

“Agyemang has had an impressive first season in England with Derby. He has scored ten goals and made four assists in 33 matches. Derby invested a substantial fee to sign him, and his market value has likely increased. He is a versatile player who can operate in multiple attacking roles, showcasing his talents in his debut season at Derby County.”

Derby does not plan to sell him easily, but if they fail to achieve promotion, other clubs will likely show interest. Apart from Leeds, Crystal Palace is also watching him closely. Strong performances at the World Cup could further boost his profile.”

Currently, Derby is in eighth place in the Championship with 54 points, just outside the playoff spots in a tightly contested league. Under John Eustace, they have secured two wins, two draws, and one loss in their last five matches and remain in the promotion race. The club hopes to keep their top player, but retaining him will depend on their performance in reaching promotion this season.
