Diego Fagundez, a seasoned forward, is returning to the New England Revolution, the team where his MLS career started in 2011. He has signed a free agent contract to play for the remainder of this season.
This deal, announced on Friday, includes an option for the club to extend through the 2027 season for the 31-year-old native of Uruguay.
Fagundez was the first-ever homegrown player for the Revolution, playing for the team for 10 seasons before moving to Austin FC from 2021 to 2023 and the Los Angeles Galaxy from 2023 to 2025. In 2020, he was named to New England’s All-Time team and won an MLS Cup with L.A. in 2024.
“We are excited to have Diego Fagundez back with the New England Revolution, the team where he began his career and made a significant impact as our first Homegrown player,” said sporting director Curt Onalfo. “Diego is a great addition who brings a strong history of offensive performance, technical skill, and extensive MLS experience, which will enhance our attack and provide more options for us moving forward.”
Fagundez leads all active MLS players with 158 goal contributions, comprising 79 goals and 79 assists. He ranks fourth among active players in goals and regular season appearances, with 424 to his name. He is one of just eight players in the league’s history to achieve both 75 goals and 75 assists.
“When I left New England, I knew I wanted to come back here one day to play for the fans who have supported me since I was young,” said Fagundez. “I believe I have matured a lot, both on and off the field, in these years. My family and I are thrilled to return to the club that gave me my first professional chance. The Revolution and our supporters have always been important to me, and I look forward to playing at Gillette Stadium again for my childhood team.”
The Revolution will have their home opener this Sunday afternoon against FC Cincinnati.
