Everton is still considering the possibility of signing Celta Vigo right-back Óscar Mingueza during the summer transfer window. However, sources close to the club are not convinced there is strong interest. This information came from an exclusive discussion on the Inside Track podcast by former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness.
Wyness: Mingueza Deal Seems More Like Speculation
Wyness noted that Mingueza has caught the attention of manager David Moyes, who is looking for a dedicated right-back. Throughout the 2025-26 season, Jake O’Brien has often played out of position at right-back, while Nathan Patterson has fallen out of favor with Moyes.
Wyness highlighted two issues that complicate a potential deal. Firstly, Barcelona retains a 50% sell-on fee, meaning Celta Vigo would receive limited funds from any transfer. Secondly, Mingueza has a release clause of around £20 million. Wyness remarked that while Mingueza is being considered, he is not a primary target, and Moyes is prioritizing players with more experience.
“I think it’s a bit more speculation. When I checked into it, I think Barcelona have about a 50% sell-on on him. So, Celta Vigo, if they do get it, won’t be getting much out of it. And I’m hearing he’s got a release clause of about £20 million. Now, there’s no doubt he’s been highly rated, but I just don’t see him being the one at the top of the list of right-backs.”
“I know that we’d like to have a bit of youth in there somewhere. But I think Moyes is looking for a little bit more experience, and so it’s one that I would say is more speculation at the moment, but I know that he’s certainly being considered.”
