Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor has become an unexpected target for Everton as the January transfer window approaches its end. Former Goodison Park CEO Keith Wyness has mentioned to Football Insider that the Toffees view the 25-year-old Frenchman as a possible replacement for Beto, who is no longer a regular in the squad.

Wilson Isidor Linked With Late Everton Switch As Beto Exit Rumours Intensify

Wyness states that this potential deal hinges on Beto leaving the club before the deadline. While David Moyes, the manager, appreciates Beto’s attitude, he seems to favor Thierno Barry as his primary striker. Thus, if a position becomes available in Everton’s attack, Isidor may be brought in quickly.

He noted on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “I think that’s going to be a straight deal. If Beto goes, then I think he [Isidor] would be coming in as backup, but I don’t know if the Beto deal is going to get done from what I’m hearing.

“There are some issues. I think Moyes quite likes Beto, likes his attitude and training. And I think he may just stick with the [Thierno] Barry combination with Beto coming on at the end. That seems to be sort of starting to produce some sort of benefit.

“Obviously not as much as they’d hoped, but still that’s the one area. But if Beto does go, then I think Isidor may be one option that could come in. There are a couple of others that we’re looking at, but I don’t think any are as far advanced, certainly as Isidor at the moment as a potential quick deal to be done.”

Can Isidor Solve Everton’s Striker Problem?

The urgency for new players arises from Beto’s evident struggles in the 2025/26 season. The Guinea-Bissau international has only scored two goals in 23 Premier League matches, mostly coming off the bench without making a significant impact.

With Thierno Barry in strong form, netting four goals in his last five games, Moyes has kept Beto out of the starting lineup. Beto’s inability to influence games was highlighted during a disappointing 45-minute stint against Brentford earlier this month, leading Moyes and the club’s management to believe they need to make a change.

But is Wilson Isidor the answer?
