Tottenham Stays 16th in Premier League After Loss to Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur failed to gain momentum from the recent appointment of Igor Tudor as they lost to Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday.

The 4-1 defeat marked an unfortunate start for Tudor in English football, emphasizing the challenges he faces at the club. Following this loss, Spurs remain in 16th place, with 18th-placed West Ham United narrowing the gap to four points after their goalless draw with Bournemouth. Nottingham Forest sits just two points behind Tottenham.

The possibility of relegation is concerning for supporters, especially given the team’s current condition and the players’ confidence levels. Despite the heavy defeat, the 47-year-old manager expressed optimism about the team’s chances of avoiding relegation, a view supported by former Spurs defender Stephen Kelly.

Mick McCarthy Comments on Tottenham’s Relegation Anxiety

Though Tottenham has a four-point cushion over 18th-placed West Ham, the limited remaining matches could easily alter their situation.

Former Premier League manager Mick McCarthy believes Tottenham will start feeling the pressure, as they monitor the relegation battle below them. He shared his doubts about the team’s ability to stay in the top flight.

“Tottenham will be panicking,” Mick McCarthy said on The Managers podcast.

“Being fourth from the bottom, you constantly worry about other teams’ results, which can distract from your own performance and make you anxious about the scores behind you.”

“They need to refocus on their own game. I think Tottenham will be looking over their shoulders with great concern.”
