Manchester United‘s defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte has yet to live up to the expectations set after his move from PSG, and it would be surprising if the club didn’t sell him this summer.

Although new Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has praised the 24-year-old Uruguayan midfielder, the fact is that Ugarte is not in the starting lineup. Carrick has removed him from the first team, indicating a shift in strategy.

According to Fabrizio Romano, shared by utdreport, Ugarte may leave Manchester United this summer, as there are clubs in Serie A interested in him.

Serie A has become a destination for players who didn’t succeed in the Premier League, with notable examples being Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund, both thriving alongside Romelu Lukaku at Napoli, the 2024/25 Italian league champions.

Thus, a move for Ugarte to Serie A makes sense, although top clubs like Inter Milan might not show interest. Still, Inter has turned around players in worse situations, and given Ugarte’s past performances with Benfica and PSG, there is potential for him to succeed.

However, he hasn’t been able to perform at Old Trafford, and unless Carrick can help him, his time at the club seems near its end. If Carrick can’t get better results from him, it’s a clear indication that Ugarte may not thrive in the Premier League.
