Kevin Denkey scored two goals as FC Cincinnati secured a 3-0 victory over Tigres UANL on Thursday in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champion Cup round-of-16 series.
The next match will take place on March 19 in San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico. The winning team will face either the Vancouver Whitecaps or the Seattle Sounders in the quarterfinals.
Cincinnati took the lead in less than six minutes. Ender Echenique passed from the right side of the 18-yard box to Denkey, who was open eight yards from the net for a simple finish.
Tom Barlow increased the lead in the 53rd minute by finishing a quick team counterattack.
Denkey scored again in the 83rd minute. Gerardo Valenzuela made a great long pass, and Denkey fired a low shot from just outside the box, beating Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman.
