Recent football events in the Americas led to major coaching changes on Monday. Similarly, Liga MX team Monterrey Rayados let go of Domenec Torrent after a series of poor performances. From Rio de Janeiro to northern Mexico, the pressure is clear. Here’s the latest on football in the Americas.
Flamengo Dismisses Filipe Luís
Filipe Luís exits Flamengo as a club icon and one of Brazil’s promising young coaches. The former left-back earned 44 caps for Brazil and played for Atlético Madrid and Chelsea before returning to Flamengo, where he played for four years. After working with the youth teams, he took over the senior team in 2024 after Tite left.
In a short time, Luís won several titles and achieved memorable moments. He led Flamengo to the 2024 Copa do Brasil, the 2025 Copa Libertadores— a title he won as both a player and a manager— the 2025 Brasileiro Série A championship, and the 2025 Supercopa. He also guided the team to significant performances in both the FIFA Club World Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
