The UEFA Champions League playoffs began successfully for Monaco’s Folarin Balogun. In the first leg against PSG, the USMNT forward scored two goals, which could be important for Monaco in their match against the reigning champions.
Eighteen minutes later, Monaco found Balogun again, as he struck a second time. In less than 20 minutes, PSG found themselves a goal down due to the clinical finishing of the USMNT striker.
Folarin Balogun Sets Two Champions League Records
Data expert Mister Chip reported that Balogun became the Concacaf player to score a double in the shortest time, surpassing Mexico’s Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, who previously held the record.
Hernandez’s record was a double in 19 minutes during the Champions League in 2015; Balogun broke that record by scoring in 18 minutes against PSG.
Balogun also became the American with the most goals in a single Champions League season, reaching five goals with his brace against PSG. He surpassed Christian Pulisic, who had four goals in a single season.
With his two goals against PSG, Balogun now has five goals in the current UEFA Champions League season, adding PSG to his list of teams scored against, which also includes Bodo Glimt, Pafos, and Galatasaray.
This season, Balogun has scored a total of 10 goals across all competitions, including four in Ligue 1 against Strasbourg, Angers, Nantes, and Lens, as well as one in the Coupe de France against Orleans.
