Everton is looking to strengthen their midfield as they prepare for the summer transfer window in 2026. According to a report from Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Fulham has now entered the competition for Middlesbrough player Hayden Hackney, who is attracting interest from several top English clubs.
Everton and Fulham Compete for Hayden Hackney
In a discussion on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke shared that Fulham is now competing with Manchester United, Leeds United, and Everton to sign Hackney. He nearly transferred to Ipswich Town last summer but chose to remain with Middlesbrough in hopes of helping them return to the Premier League.
His decision to stay has proven beneficial. This season, Hackney has been pivotal for Middlesbrough as they strive for promotion. If the team succeeds, it may make it harder for them to lose him. O’Rourke believes Middlesbrough is optimistic about retaining their star player if they achieve promotion.
However, if they fail to advance, a bidding war is likely. Everton is keen on Hackney and actively seeking new players to improve their midfield.
“Hayden Hackney’s future will be a hot topic this summer,”
“Last summer he was close to leaving Middlesbrough but chose to stay.”
“Several clubs were interested, but Middlesbrough managed to keep him, which has been rewarding as he drives their promotion efforts.”
“Middlesbrough wouldn’t want to lose Hackney. If they get promoted, they might be able to keep him.”
“If they don’t get promoted, keeping him will be challenging. Clubs like Leeds and Everton are interested in Hackney.”
“There are even rumors about Manchester United’s interest… Fulham also likes the player.”
