After both teams drew in their MLS season openers, the Los Angeles Galaxy will host Charlotte FC on Saturday in Carson, California.

The Galaxy had a 1-1 draw at home against New York City FC, while Charlotte FC played to a 1-1 tie on the road against St. Louis City.

Los Angeles has been more active, also progressing in the CONCACAF Champions Cup with a road-goal advantage after a home/away match against Sporting SM from Panama. They finished with a scoreless draw at home on Wednesday, resulting in a 1-1 aggregate score.

In their two Champions Cup matches and one MLS game, the Galaxy have scored only two goals, which hasn’t been unexpected.

“We’re focusing on getting our players physically ready this week to keep everyone healthy,” Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said. “We spent less time on tactics during the later part of preseason to prioritize physical readiness.”

Joao Klauss made an impressive start, scoring just under 90 seconds into the match against NYCFC. The Brazilian was making his debut after scoring 25 goals over three seasons with St. Louis City.

Pep Biel scored the equalizer for Charlotte FC in the 73rd minute during their opener. The Spanish midfielder has now signed a permanent contract with Charlotte after spending the previous two seasons on loan from Olympiacos in Greece.

Charlotte FC will play five consecutive home games after their two opening matches on the road, with their next away game not scheduled until April 18.

“Going into the LA game, the positives are that we are unbeaten in our first match,” said Charlotte coach Dean Smith. “We have room for improvement. After reviewing the game against St. Louis City, I pointed out several areas where we can improve, both individually and as a team.”
