Harry Maguire, a seasoned center back for Manchester United, has shifted from being a target of criticism to being seen as a valuable leader and depth player.

Recent discussions have emerged about extending Maguire’s contract for another season, contingent on acceptable wages. According to a report from The i Paper Sport, Manchester United’s recent defensive injuries are boosting his chances of staying.

At 33 years old, Manchester United is now more likely to offer Maguire a new contract this summer. His current deal is set to expire during this transfer window, with a proposed wage cut from £190,000 to £100,000.

While there are plans for Manchester United to acquire another prominent center back to address the injury challenges faced by Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt, retaining Maguire could provide essential depth and leadership at Old Trafford.

It remains uncertain whether the club will formally offer this new contract to Maguire. However, given his leadership this season and contributions under Michael Carrick, Manchester United may choose to maintain his presence.
