Emma Hayes has announced a 26-player roster to compete for the SheBelieves Cup in March. The roster includes 23 field players and 3 goalkeepers, all with international experience. Each match will allow teams to use 23 of the 26 players.
The US team will play Argentina on March 1 in Nashville, Canada on March 4 in Columbus, and Colombia on March 7 in Harrison, NJ. Last year’s champion, Japan, will not participate this time.
“The SheBelieves Cup is a great event that helps us simulate a FIFA tournament group stage,” Hayes remarked. “With three quality games in quick succession, we can prepare effectively for the World Cup qualifying later this year. We aim to keep developing our player pool and improving our standards as we gain more experience.”
This year’s tournament introduces a 26-player roster that can rotate and matches that may go to penalties if drawn. Teams will receive three points for a win, two points for a penalty win, and one point for a penalty loss.
Among the 26 players selected, 15 are returning from the January squad that played against Paraguay and Chile. Key players from Europe include forward Alyssa Thompson, midfielder Lindsey Heaps, defender Naomi Girma, and goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce. Sam Coffey joins the national team for the first time since moving to Manchester City. Four players from Gotham — Lilly Reale, Emily Sonnett, Rose Lavelle, and Jaedyn Shaw — were not in the January squad as they were involved in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
