India’s Under-17 women’s football team made history by qualifying for the AFC Under-17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026, defeating Uzbekistan 2-1 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. In a thrilling comeback, the young Indian team overcame Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan took the lead in the 38th minute with a volley from Shakhsodon Alikhonov. At halftime, India found themselves on the defensive. However, head coach Joachim Alexander’s strategic changes shifted the game’s momentum. Tandamani Baaskhi, who came on as a substitute in the 55th minute, scored the equalizer. Anushka Kumar then set up the winning goal in the 66th minute. With six points from two matches, India topped Group G and secured qualification for the Asian Cup for the first time.
