Tottenham forward linked with move to La Liga giants.
Tottenham Hotspur’s recent season has not gone as expected following last year’s Europa League success.
With European qualification looking doubtful for the next season, there are concerns about several players’ futures at Tottenham. Key defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are already attracting interest from top clubs in Europe. Another player facing an uncertain future is Richarlison.
In December 2025, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that MLS side Orlando City had shown interest in Richarlison. They met with the player and his agents to discuss a potential transfer. However, a move did not materialize as the 28-year-old preferred to remain with Spurs during the current season, especially with the World Cup approaching.
Richarlison linked with La Liga giants
At the start of the season, Richarlison was the main striker for Thomas Frank. Thanks in part to Dominic Solanke’s ankle surgery, the Brazilian gained valuable consistency, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 21 league matches before suffering a hamstring injury in January.
By summer, he will have only a year left on his contract. There have been questions about his future during previous transfer windows, and it now seems a move may happen.
Spanish news outlet Fichajes reports that Atletico Madrid is interested in signing Richarlison. Manager Diego Simeone has already expressed support for the potential transfer, and Spurs are open to discussions.
Atletico Madrid’s interest makes sense, especially if they lose star striker Julian Alvarez to Arsenal during the summer, creating a significant gap in their squad for the 2026/27 season. While Richarlison may not be a direct replacement for Alvarez, acquiring him at a lower price could allow Atletico to invest in another forward.
Tottenham management hopes Richarlison performs well for Brazil at the World Cup, which could lead to a better transfer fee in the summer. Their willingness to discuss a deal indicates his current standing at the club. Richarlison’s recovery in late February will benefit the team, but his long-term future at Tottenham remains uncertain.
