After their defeat to Bodo Glimt in the Champions League, Inter Milan is aware that significant changes are needed to make a return as winners. The club aims to refresh its squad, focusing on younger and more dynamic players, starting with the midfield.
New manager Christian Chivu, a former Inter midfielder, has taken over from Simone Inzaghi and is considering a shift to a 3-4-2-1 formation for the 2026/27 season, according to Tuttosport.
To support this transition, he plans to recruit midfield players. Chivu has identified three box-to-box midfielders: Atalanta’s Ederson, Leon Goretzka, who is available on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, and Manu Kone from Roma.
Inter is also exploring additional potential signings, but the primary focus is revitalizing the midfield with top talent. Of the three, Kone, Ederson, and Goretzka are all obtainable, with Goretzka being the most accessible if the club can manage his salary. Athletic midfielders often thrive in Serie A, and Goretzka has been seeking a new opportunity for some time.
Kone and Ederson are established players in Serie A and bring more energy compared to the likes of Henrik Mkhitaryan, providing the ball-winning and progression abilities that Inter needs.
