With just two months to go until the 2026 World Cup in North America, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is getting ready for the big event.

Chicharito holds the record as Mexico’s top goalscorer with 52 goals in 109 matches, surpassing Jared Borgetti’s previous record of 46 set in 2017.

He has participated in the World Cups of 2010, 2014, and 2018, but he is now gearing up for a new challenge off the pitch.

After leaving his childhood club Chivas de Guadalajara in January, Chicharito is set to join Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as part of the Fox Sports broadcasting team for the upcoming World Cup.

On his new role, he said, “Before I was doing things with my feet. Now it’s going to be with my voice.”

He added, “I’m a rookie, man. I cannot promise anything. It’s going to be my first time. I can be very, very positive. I can be very critical, as well.”

Fox Sports’ president expressed enthusiasm about Chicharito joining the team, stating, “Chicharito is synonymous with El Tri, and since Mexico will play a major role in the tournament, we wanted to find voices that bring instant international credibility to our coverage.”

He also mentioned, “We’re thrilled to have him going from striker to studio analyst in his television commentator debut.”

Chicharito’s appointment is fitting given his extensive international experience, being one of Mexico’s top scorers and competing in three World Cups.

His time with LA Galaxy in the MLS has made him familiar to American audiences, along with his stints at clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Bayer Leverkusen, making him a notable figure in various leagues.
