Last month, Jesse Lingard made headlines by joining Brazilian club Corinthians after leaving FC Seoul in South Korea in January 2026.

This marked a milestone as he became the first English player to sign for a Brazilian club.

Unfortunately, his start has been rocky; the team is close to being relegated due to a nine-game losing streak.

In response to the team’s struggles, Corinthians announced the firing of manager Dorival Junior, stating: “Sport Club Corinthians Paulista announces the departure of coach Dorival Júnior and his coaching staff.”

The statement added: “The Club appreciates their contributions, highlighted by significant achievements including the 2025 Copa do Brasil and the 2026 Supercopa Rei, which will be remembered in the club’s history.

“Corinthians wishes them success in their future careers and informs that training on Monday (06) will be led by William Batista, the under-20s coach.”

Marcelo Paz, a football executive at Corinthians, remarked: “We want to clarify, out of respect for the media and supporters, that Dorival and his staff will no longer continue with the club.”

He added, “We thank him for his efforts and the titles achieved, which are part of our history, but we believe that the work had reached its limit.”

“Nine games without a win is too much for Corinthians.”

According to ESPN, Corinthians has now appointed Fernando Diniz as the new head coach following a 1-0 loss to Internacional.

The appointment was confirmed after a two-hour meeting, with Diniz’s last position being at Vasco Da Gama in February.
