Jordi Cruyff, the son of famous footballer Johan Cruyff, made headlines when he joined Manchester United from Barcelona in 1996 on the orders of Sir Alex Ferguson.

During his four years at Old Trafford, Cruyff appeared 58 times, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.

His time at the club was marred by injuries, leading him to leave for Deportivo Alaves.

In Spain, Cruyff enjoyed more playing time, featuring in 107 matches for Alaves between 2000 and 2003.

Despite winning three Premier League titles at United, his stint there is not widely remembered positively.

After United, Cruyff played for Espanyol, De Volewijckers, Metalurg Donetsk, and Valletta before retiring in 2010.

Like many former players, he stayed in football, now serving as the technical director for Ajax, a club with strong ties to Manchester United.

Current players like Donny van de Beek, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui have connections to both clubs, as did legends like Edwin van der Sar and Jaap Stam in the past.

Recently, Cruyff has been active in his role, especially with the news that Oscar Garcia is the new head coach of Ajax.

Garcia replaces Fred Grim, who had a challenging run with just nine wins in 21 matches since taking over as caretaker in November 2025.
