Jose Mourinho is well-known for his success at major football clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
At 63, with numerous trophies to his name, the two-time Champions League winner is now coaching in his home country.
While not a top choice for clubs seeking big achievements, Mourinho is currently managing Benfica.
As of now, after 38 matches in charge, he has achieved an average of 2 points per match.
His return to Portugal follows a brief period in Turkey with Fenerbahce, and his Benfica team currently sits second in Liga Portugal.
Four points behind leaders Porto, his squad is focused on taking each game as it comes.
Known for his confident demeanor, Mourinho recently showed a more vulnerable side.
He became emotional before Benfica’s 3-0 victory over Vitoria de Guimaraes, as the stadium held a minute of silence for Silvino Louro.
Everyone in the stadium honored Louro, who had passed away after a long illness.
Mourinho was particularly affected, visibly moved on the sideline alongside his staff, reminding everyone of the bonds in football.
A tribute to Louro appeared on the big screen, with the audience paying their respects.
The football community has been mourning since the announcement of Louro’s death at age 67.
Louro played as a goalkeeper for clubs like Benfica and Porto and joined Manchester United in 2016 with Mourinho’s arrival.
Before that, he had worked with Mourinho at Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan, spending five years in Manchester before moving to Al-Hilal in 2021.
For Mourinho, this was a deeply emotional moment, having shared many experiences with Louro across Europe.
Shortly after hearing the news, Mourinho shared a tribute on social media: “I’m crying now but I’ll be able to laugh, talk about you, and remember every moment,” he said.
“You are loved in the Mourinho family and you will live on. I’ll keep hearing you before every match: ‘Brother, everything will be alright’. Rest in peace, little brother.”
