Despite significant investment, Chelsea has struggled to improve on the field, leading to increased scrutiny of BlueCo’s strategy. Juan Mata recently shared his thoughts.
Reports indicate that Chelsea has spent close to £3 billion since Todd Boehly and Clearlake took over at Stamford Bridge, with a large portion directed towards acquiring new players.
While Liam Rosenior has a squad filled with potential, concerns persist regarding the level of experience and leadership necessary for top-level competition.
Some young players have faced criticism due to the overall inexperience within the team.

Chelsea supporters have urged the club to acquire more experienced players, particularly in the centre-back position. The team has struggled to replace Thiago Silva since his departure in 2024.
Mata discussed Chelsea’s transfer strategy on TalkSPORT with Gabby Agbonlahor. Instead of voicing criticism, he defended the club’s choices.
“I don’t think it’s only Chelsea. It is something that has changed in football. Every club wants to sign young players because they have the potential to become better and increase in market value,” Mata said.
Mata has previously praised Liam Rosenior’s coaching style and his ability to accommodate diverse personalities in the squad.
Chelsea may alter transfer strategy
Although Chelsea has several centre-back options, none exceed the age of 28, with Tosin being the oldest. Levi Colwill, a more experienced player in that group, has missed the entire season due to injury.
While the club continues to be linked with young defenders like Honest Ahanor and Tylel Tati, reports indicate that BlueCo is now considering bringing in older players for balance.
Younger targets remain on the radar, such as Jeremy Jacquet, but names like Kim Min-jae, Jules Kounde, and Marcos Senesi have also emerged. Fans would likely welcome the addition of more experience in the defense.
