Jude Bellingham’s performance for Real Madrid has been average lately. The 22-year-old English player, who was a top contender for the Ballon d’Or two seasons ago, hasn’t been as impactful since then.
If Bellingham had performed better, Real Madrid could have kept up with Barcelona in the league standings. Currently, Barcelona holds a four-point lead over Real Madrid after 27 matches.
Jude Bellingham’s Performance Has Declined This Season
Bellingham has scored six goals and provided four assists in 28 matches this season. While these numbers aren’t terrible, they fall short of expectations for a player of his quality.
This is a significant drop compared to the 2023/24 season, which was Bellingham’s first at Madrid, where he scored 23 goals and made 13 assists in 42 matches. In the previous season, he netted 15 goals and had 11 assists in 58 matches.
While these are respectable figures, they don’t match the high expectations set during his debut season. Bellingham’s form has noticeably declined since the start of last season. Overall, he has tallied 44 goals and 28 assists in 128 matches for Real Madrid so far.
Injuries have also affected him this season. Last season, he sometimes played on the left side even though he is primarily a central midfielder, but he has mainly returned to his central role this season.
With Kylian Mbappe joining Real Madrid last season, a position in the attack has been filled by the French star, limiting Bellingham’s options to change his role. Ultimately, his decline seems to be mainly due to injuries and mounting expectations.
