Tottenham struggles continue without key player.

Tottenham Hotspur is currently 14th in the league, without a win in the Premier League for 2026. They appear unlikely to escape another relegation battle.

The club’s winter transfer deadline day was quiet, disappointing many supporters who hoped for new arrivals. The only signing was young James Wilson, who joined on loan from Hearts until the season’s end. He will play for the Under-21s, leaving Conor Gallagher and Souza as the only first-team additions.

The team needed more reinforcements after struggling, particularly since nine players were unavailable during their recent match against Manchester City. Despite having only 11 senior players available, Spurs managed a respectable 2-2 draw with City.

However, one point against Manchester City does not change the fact that Tottenham required more signings than just Gallagher and Souza during the winter window.

As the January transfer window approached, Tottenham aimed to sign a left-winger. The failure to replace Son Heung-min has been costly, with no player consistently performing on the left side.

Also, Spurs sold Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace early in the transfer window. Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus, one of the few bright spots this season, is now out for months with a quad injury.

Thomas Frank mentioned last week that Tottenham pursued Antoine Semenyo but he ended up going from Bournemouth to Manchester City. Frank indicated that the club would remain active on deadline day and consider loan options as alternatives.

Despite these efforts, Tottenham couldn’t add to their winger options. Football London journalist Alasdair Gold discussed the failure to secure a new winger before the transfer window closed.

“The obvious need was for a left-winger. However, with Kudus not available, it was really just about finding any decent-quality winger,” Alasdair Gold shared on his YouTube channel.

“We learned last week that Spurs actively pursued Antoine Semenyo but ultimately could not close the deal.”

“Spurs considered alternative options and even looked at loan moves to aid them in the short term, but they weren’t able to finalize a deal that would enhance the squad.”

Frank has been left in a tough position by the Tottenham board, as he lacks the necessary players to navigate the team’s precarious situation. Given the current squad, achieving positive results seems challenging.

Lastring Johnson shows a serious oversight on the club’s part, as selling him now appears unwise, especially with Kudus sidelined until April.
