Los Angeles FC aims to continue their shutout record when they face Orlando City on Saturday.
LAFC (4-0-1, 13 points) has not lost or conceded a goal in five regular-season matches, with an impressive 8-0 scoreline. They have set a new MLS record by not allowing a goal for 450 minutes at the start of the season.
In addition to the MLS season, LAFC has been active in the CONCACAF Champions League. Their packed schedule includes nine matches over 33 days, and the tournament will resume on Tuesday when LAFC hosts Cruz Azul in the quarterfinals.
LAFC coach Marc Dos Santos noted that the team used the two-week MLS international break to recover and prepare, emphasizing the importance of focusing on Orlando City and being ready for surprises.
“Because (Orlando) struggled early in the season, we have to stay alert,” Dos Santos said. “… We also mentioned to the players that they might make changes after the two weeks.”
In contrast to LAFC’s strong performance, Orlando City (1-4-0, 3 points) has the league’s worst defense, allowing 17 goals in five matches.
Under interim head coach Martin Perelman, Orlando won 2-1 against CF Montreal on March 14 but suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Nashville SC on March 21.
“This is a process with many changes happening simultaneously,” said Orlando midfielder Eduard Atuesta, referring to the coaching change, injuries, and new players. “We know we need to keep working and trust the process.”
Atuesta is expected to play after missing the last match due to a thigh injury. Orlando defenders Griffin Dorsey (lower back), Robin Jansson (foot surgery), and David Brekalo (leg) are all uncertain for Saturday’s match.
