James Trafford reportedly wants to leave Manchester City this summer. He has been frustrated sitting on the bench. Former Manchester United scout Mick Brown indicated that Trafford expressed his desire to move during a recent post-match interview, especially after being a backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma.
James Trafford Seeks Departure from Man City as Leeds Show Interest
Manchester City blocked a mid-season move back in January. However, Trafford’s public comments about his unhappiness have pressured the club to consider a transfer in the upcoming window. Initially, he returned to City expecting to be the main goalkeeper. But when Paris Saint-Germain made Donnarumma available, Trafford found himself confined to the bench.
“Trafford is definitely looking to leave Man City,” Brown told Football Insider.
“He was persuaded to return to Man City, where he began his career, after developing his skills elsewhere. It seemed like a positive move.
“Then, Donnarumma became available, and it’s understandable why City pursued one of the top goalkeepers, as such opportunities are rare.
“Trafford was unexpectedly relegated to the number two position without having the chance to prove himself, and he has made it clear that isn’t what he wanted.
“He aimed to return to City, showcase his talent at the highest level, play regularly, and earn a spot in the England squad.
“He’s a quality goalkeeper and has shown that, but his career is now stalled at City, suggesting he is trying to leave.
“There will be plenty of interest in him if he becomes available; the question remains whether City will let him go.”
