Liverpool has successfully signed one of the top center backs in the world, Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, surpassing Chelsea in the race for his signature. An agreement is in place for him to join manager Arne Slot’s team in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano shared details about the deal, which could amount to 72 million Euros. He stated, “Breaking news, Jeremy Jacquet, the talented French defender from Rennes, is set to join Liverpool in the summer transfer window. The deal has been agreed upon by all parties. Jacquet has accepted Liverpool’s offer, but he will join in June 2026. Rennes clarified that they were not interested in selling him during this window, only in the summer, and Liverpool accepted all terms.”

The transfer window stays open until 7 p.m. local time on Monday, meaning Liverpool may still bring in another player. However, Jacquet represents a significant addition for the club’s future.

He had an outstanding season with Rennes, leading to his move to a more prominent club. Liverpool made their move.

“Chelsea were also interested,” stated Romano. “Now, Liverpool has finalized the agreement for one of the leading center backs, Jeremy Jacquet, with a fee of 60 million Euros plus 12 million in add-ons, totaling up to 72 million Euros.”

Liverpool Nearing Last-Minute Transfer

The transfer window closes on February 2nd. Before that, Liverpool and manager Arne Slot are close to completing a late transfer for defender Lutsharel Geertruida, according to Romano.

Romano mentioned that initial discussions took place between Sunderland and Liverpool because Slot has a long-standing connection with Geertruida from their time at Feyenoord. This relationship helped finalize the deal days ago.

However, Geertruida is currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig, complicating Liverpool’s efforts to finalize the transfer.

This news follows Liverpool’s 4-1 victory against Newcastle at Anfield. After the game, Slot indicated that the team is still looking to make additions before the transfer deadline.

“In the last 48 hours, we’ve been trying to strengthen the squad,” Slot remarked. “I’m not fully aware of all the current details, but our aim is to enhance the team, not weaken it. We’ll see what happens!”
