Liam Rosenior made the decision to start Mamadou Sarr against Hull City, and it proved successful as the young defender was crucial in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory on Friday night.
The Senegalese player might be unfamiliar to many Chelsea fans, but Rosenior knows him well from Sarr’s loan period at Strasbourg earlier this season.
This year has been significant for the 20-year-old. He joined Chelsea permanently last summer, participated in the Club World Cup, returned on loan to Strasbourg, won the African Cup of Nations with Senegal, and then came back to Stamford Bridge.
Friday was only his second match for Chelsea. His first appearance was as a late substitute in the Club World Cup against ES Tunis, but this was his first time starting – and he definitely made an impression.
